HIV and AIDS in Kenya

HIV & AIDS
Kenya had an estimated 1.5 million people living with HIV as of 2021. The HIV prevalence rate among adults was approximately 4.9%.

Prevention methods include condom use, PrEP, and antiretroviral therapy for pregnant women.

Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) is the standard treatment, available at government healthcare facilities.

Sickle Cell Disease

Sickle Cell
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is the most common hemoglobinopathy in Kenya. About 4.5% of children in western Kenya are born with SCD. SCD contributes significantly to mortality in children under 5 years due to late diagnosis and lack of access to treatment.
